How do I get out of a professional rut?
Question:
I’m wondering about what kind of education there is to become a life and
career coach. What do I need?
- Helena, age 23, student of human resources, Uppsala.
Carina answers:
If you want to work exclusively with career coaching or as it is in many
cases, career counselling, there are a few career coach training programmes.
Look for “career coach training” on the internet.
If you as a coach want to have a wider scope, I would recommend a coach training programme approved by the ICF, the International Coach Federation. ICF is an independent body and approves those coach schools that comply with the established coaching practice which is starting to become widespread throughout the world.
What do you need? You need to have a passionate interest for personal development
and you need to let go of the expert knowledge you obtained earlier in life.
In order to sell yourself as a coach you will also need for others to have
confidence in you and be drawn to you as a person.
