How do I know I got the right coach?
Just because a coach can have a good chat and can promote himself doesn’t necessarily mean that he or she is a fantastic coach. What’s interesting is their talent for coaching.
Ask, therefore, for references.
And above all – always request a sample session. Most coaches offer one half-hour session free of charge, and not with a bunch of prattle about payment schedules, how coaches work, etc.
What you can ask yourself after for first session with the coach:
- What feeling do you get when you meet the coach? Switch off your logic functions. Coaching is based on revelations. What is your gut-feeling?
- What have others said about the coach?
- Do you have confidence in the coach? A coach and a friend are two completely different things. You should be able to say absolutely anything you want in the world without being seen as provocative.
Don’t get a bad conscience if you want to try out a new coach. The personal chemistry and dynamics have to work.
If after a while you feel like your coaching is bogging down, switch to another coach. Then you will get many new approaches and a breath of fresh air in the process.
Do you perhaps want to try out a specialised coach? Today, there are career
coaches, personal coaches, leadership coaches, health coaches, relationship
coaches, dating coaches, speech coaches, and sales coaches …indeed the selection
is growing constantly. Often, it is the coach’s own interests and personality
that determine the fields of coaching.
